As Gijón is practically level with an abundance of open spaces, a bicycle is the ideal means of transport to get around the city; a city overlooking the sea with an extensive network of bike paths running along the coastline and along country trails passing through woodland. The transition from town to country occurs naturally after leaving behind Gijón’s beautiful beaches, with additional miles of greenways shared by hikers and cyclists that constitute a sustainable alternative for both leisure and transport.
Public bicycle service
Service available only to Citizen Card holders
Via its Gijón Bici service, Gijón City Council provides free use of bicycles, enabling you to move freely throughout the city. There are currently 8 stations in operation, with 64 bikes available.
Users have to identify themselves via their citizen card and a PIN number at the scanner installed at each of the bike parking stations. Once identified, you can make use of one of the bicycles, which you can then leave at the nearest parking station at the end of the ride.
