Carretera · Stage 1 · 85 Kilometres See map
Leave the cathedral and cross the River Guadalquivir via the footbridge, which also allows bicycles to cross. You head away from the city through extensive fields of cereal crops before reaching the Sierra Norte with its hills and gorges dotted with holm oak where Iberian pigs range freely.
As you leave Santiponce, at km 8 take the 3rd exit from the roundabout onto the N-630. The arrows send you onto a route that becomes a dirt track. The N-630 is a wide road with little traffic, running alongside the motorway, allowing you to cycle fairly safely while gaining altitude. It is the way out of Seville for cyclists and bikers alike and so is very busy on public holidays, while the outdoor seating at bars and cafes in the villages are crowded. You come off the N-630 five km past El Ronquillo and head for Almadén de la Plata.
Continue on to the end of the stage in El Real de la Jara via a road that is not in such a good state of repair, but which offers no real problems for cyclists.
