Carretera · Stage 6 · 63 Kilometres See map
This stage leaves behind the cork oak woods of Cáceres’ dehesa to ascend up to the oak and chestnut woods of the Sierra de Béjar.
Once more, you continue uphill on the N-630 to the Ambroz Valley. Once you pass Aldeanueva del Camino, you take a detour to visit Hervás and its Jewish quarter, set deep in the valley at the foot of El Calvitero.
Return to the N-630 and head for Baños de Montemayor, a spa resort since Roman times. This is where the ascent to Béjar Pass begins, the woodland changing from Mediterranean to continental. At the roadside, acorns become chestnuts.
You reach the town hall in the main square of the wool-producing town of Béjar, perched on top of the walled spur, via the street called Ronda de Viriato.
