Carretera · Stage 9 · 66 Kilometres See map
The entrance to the town square, which is the starting point of the route, is a pedestrian precinct, but poses no problems for cyclists. Remember, though, that pedestrians have right of way at all times.
At km 2, once you pass a roundabout, it is preferable to take the service road to the side. In general, the hard shoulders are not ideal for road bikes as they have an excessively rough surface and cracks criss-crossing them, possibly caused by contrasting frost and heat in the area.
There is an alternative to avoid the link with the A-6, namely the pedestrian route (collected when tracking the stage). At km 60, turn left on the roundabout and cross the A-6 over the iron footbridge. A gravel road then leads 600 metres to the old bridge over the River Esla. Once you have crossed the river and passed under the viaducts of the A-6, you can follow the signposted minor road or take the old Madrid road, which is the route marked by the track which leads to Benavente.
